We are on a mission to usher a bright new generation of mechanics and vehicle technicians into the automotive industry. Each AutoAngels car story features an enthusiastic trainee alongside an experienced, but equally enthusiastic, fully-qualified mechanic. This enables trainees to gain invaluable hands-on experience working in a garage environment on a range of popular, everyday cars, as well as more aspirational vehicles. They are often vital to their owner’s quality of life and it’s this which makes timely repairs crucial.
Removed from the training centres, our trainees are immersed in the real world of timescales and difficult diagnostics in a way that the training centres cannot provide. Here is the real challenge – to fix a car using current best practices and get it back to the customer who desperately needs it, as soon as possible. Often quiet to begin with and working in a new environment, it’s a joy to see the trainees’ confidence grow as they strive to meet the demands of the job in hand – and have fun doing it.
Having come from vastly different backgrounds, the trainees have two things in common – enthusiasm and determination. Some have been raised by families steeped in generations of Formula 1 or Grand Prix events, off-road car racing, or fixing up cars as a hobby. Others have come from homes where the idea of becoming a mechanic was not condoned, let alone celebrated. Some have faced adversity within their circle of friends and family in the pursuit of their goals, others have been cheered on. And yet each of these trainees is excelling in their chosen field.
For some time, the industry like many other traditional trades, has seen a decline in uptake from schools, as mainstream education and career paths continue to veer away from the traditional trades and towards newer media and technological roles. AutoAngels attempts to redress the balance, showing the automotive trade as a vital and vibrant career path open to all.
